A member of my tiny audience (in terms of number of members, they are all normal sized people – sorry, the writer in me can’t help it) emailed me and asked, “How did you pull this off financially?” OK, let’s talk about that. In three parts.

I joined Ball in 1991, a youngster of 27. I had $500 to my name.

When I left Ball at almost 59 years old, my wife and I were secure (well, as secure as you can be these days, especially given the current tariff-driven economy). Barring a disaster, we had enough money invested, and income streams, to live on into our 90s.

How did I do it? Fair warning: You under-35s won’t like this answer. It’s not exciting, it feels old fashioned and worst of all, it isn’t instantaneous.

The answer is: Discipline. Consistency. And a little luck. (I’ll get to my guy, Glen, later).
