Aquaman, I was told quietly, was going to be late. Oh, crap.

At that moment in March 2019, the Aquaman-fueled frenzy around Jason Momoa was reaching its peak. He was now a bonafide global star and social media tidal wave – and he was on his way to Goodyear, Arizona.

Which is where I now stood, under a massive tent in a parking lot so new, you could still smell the asphalt.

In about 90 minutes, I would officially welcome more than 100 guests, including local and state officials, as part of the open house ceremony for Ball’s new Goodyear plant.
