Back when I was single and dating in my 20s, I realized I needed “a particular set of skills.”

Generally introverted, and prematurely bald as a young man, I wasn’t a “love-at-first-sight” candidate for many women. Dates usually came about after others spent time around me at work, or through introductions by mutual friends.

I decided one way for dates to get to know me better was through me cooking them dinner. During the time it took to make the meal, we would be able to talk while multitasking. Less pressure, and potentially more fun.

Also? If I learned to make some meals, I reasoned, I would stand out in a sea of dudes who barely knew how to make hot dogs.
