As I stared at the nauseatingly green Ball logo and text engraved on the new aluminum monolith just delivered to Ball’s Monterrey, Mexico, can plant, a single thought entered my mind.

A thought in the voice of Hank Hill, no less, from the animated TV show, “King of the Hill.”

“That thing ain’t right.”

The unveiling of the huge monument was to be one of the key moments of the next morning’s plant Open House Ceremony. Attending the event would be Ball’s CEO and senior executive team as well as prominent federal, state and local Mexican officials and nearly 100 customers, suppliers and other guests.

I turned to Cristina, marketing coordinator for FINSA, Ball’s local partner for the new plant, and said, “We have to fix that, fast.”

It was 11 p.m. The open house started in 10 hours.
